Oh, Boy Notes: This mix has two parts. Up through track four is Dan's perspective leading up to around Crazy Cupid Love-ish and the following four are Blair's point of view from Cross Rhodes on. And lest anyone tell you fandom is not a social activity, this was not possible with much collaboration from aragons and many textures from Natasha, to whom I am most grateful. Ah, Dan and Blair. I didn't watch Gossip Girl beyond the first season because I honestly thought it sucked from Day 1. (I only got as far as I did because I felt a sense of obligation/horrified interest, having attended a Manhattan private school myself. Which was nothing like Gossip Girl. Because none of them are anything like Gossip Girl.) But someone tipped me off to watch the Age of Innocence episode in season two, and, wow, that was an hilarious piece of television. (Doubly hilarious because I've read the novel?)

Anyway, that made me curious about Dan/Blair, but apparently the show has never actually gone there? I read a few fics, but this was all years ago now. So I'd appreciate any recs you have! They were charming and feisty. I'm sure better stuff has been written since I lost interest.

you can just watch all their scenes on youtube if you want! if you just search dan/blair season 1 or whatever number the fangirls have already compiled most things. i mean, you probably have to watch season one to get the broader show context of everything but i stopped watching in s2 and i can gather the relevant information from the youtube clips. but i've also been relatively up to date on it because of tumblr so i don't know! personally, i'm maybe hating myself enough to watch the whole thing from the beginning, which means i don't really know how to advise you, but i would say that dan/blair actually kicks off in season four, so if you wikipedia the first three seasons you should be just fine.

Well I know what happened for sure in the first 2 seasons because I did watch season one and my roommate was still watching through season 2 so I heard about it. I'll poke wikipedia and see what I should watch. I really don't think I want to sit through the Blair/Chuck soap opera.

ohhh okay, i thought you said you hadn't watched any of the show but i must have misunderstood. anyway, yeah, season four. 4x11 is when i'd say things really get rolling. there's chuck/blair soap opera throughout, but you know, we struggle through. or you can just watch the dan/blair clips on youtube which is what i did and be happy. :)

AAAAH. I totally watched a bunch of recent episodes yesterday and am not even within spitting distance of "caught up" but SEASON FIVE DAN AND BLAIR OMG. I am so on your team right now. THEY ARE SO SHINY AND HILARIOUS.

Dear lord. You think I'd know better than to join one of your ships by now! THEY ALL SINK. WITHOUT FAIL.

i am ecstatic. did you watch fanvids yet? i have recs! i've watched this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEvBISJHrX8) like ten times no regrets.

and listen, i used to have taste too, but as dan/blair is the only tasteful thing LEFT on gossip girl, i think we can get away with it. shining beacon of quality in a cesspool of regret and shame.

i'm not sure what it says about me, but so many people i know have commented on my ships of late to remind me that everything i ship is doomed. common theme in my life, yes, but it seems to be a subject of conversation more often these days. maybe because i'm spiraling and people are trying to pull me back from the ledge before i pull them over with me. BUT NO. IF I'M GOING DOWN, YOU'RE ALL GOING DOWN ALONGSIDE.

AAAAH, I LOVE THAT VIDEO. I actually prefer this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VOMY2NxlQWk), which is set to the same song but with better editing. The other one is longer, though.

I really hope this show runs with the plotline for a while so I can be entertained. I sort of doubt they will, though. Gossip Girl is all about melodramatic relationships, and the whole appeal of Dan and Blair is that they actually seem like they could be happy and largely drama-free together. I mean, they fight. But it's a healthy, funny, non-destructive kind of fighting. And Blair schemes less when she's with him. And he's always offering to genuinely help her, while getting nothing in return, which is what partners do.

Actually, an interesting next step might be seeing if she learns to do the same for him in return. Because, while it's pretty obvious she has feelings for him, she hasn't really been returning the favor. Maybe she could start by... oh, I don't know, reading his whole book?

BUT I'M SURE THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN, AS WE'RE ALL HEADED OVER THE CLIFF OF CHUCK BASS ANGST AND DOOM VERY SOON.
