as always, public feminism post is public

because i didn't already dislike stephen moyer:

"The thing about vampirism is that it taps into a female point of view – you have an old-fashioned gentleman with manners who is a fucking killer… it's an interesting duality, because in our present society it would be an odd thing for a woman to say, ‘I want my man to be physical with me.' How, as a modern man, can you fucking work that? It's one thing to be polite and gentle… But when do you know it's OK to crawl out of the mud and rape her [as Bill does in one scene]?… It's difficult stuff for a bloke, but a vampire gets away with it…. I think that's the attraction of the show – it's looking back at a romantic time when men were men, but they were still charming." — True Blood's Stephen Moyer

- Just Jared

.... yeah.

idek.

also, for the record, it's not that difficult or odd for a woman to say that she likes it rough. i'm pretty sure you can use your words to express such sentiments and it's a-okay.

i don't pay any attention to true blood or twilight, but i'm pretty sure in our modern day, women are a lot more vocal about wanting sex and wanting it kinky/rough. like hello-- it's not just men who are into games. i don't really know what this guy is talking about, because there is always that boundary. rape is rape. if she says no, you fucking stop. it's not that difficult.

APPARENTLY he rapes sookeh but i don't remember this? i do fast forward through most of their scenes but if it's the scene i'm thinking about i'm PRETTY sure that was consensual.

Wait, wait, Bill RAPED SOMEONE? WTF?

I haven't gotten beyond the first episode, but still. Fail. And people like him?

Also, Moyer is just - ugh. I don't even have words for how much this pissed me off.

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
NO, HE DOESN'T! THAT SCENE WASN'T RAPE! IT WAS CONSENSUAL! I DON'T UNDERSTAND UNLESS I WATCHED IT WRONG BUT I GENERALLY SEE RAPE WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES SO I CAN'T IMAGINE I MISSED IT AHHH

[identity profile] gwendolynmstacy.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Um what? What is wrong with him, does he have 'open mouth insert foot' disease? I'm pretty sure women are very capable especially now with voicing what they want or don't want in regard to sex. On the other hand I have to wonder if he's insane because I interpreted that quote as him saying, "It's difficult stuff for a bloke, but a vampire gets away with it [...] but they were still charming."

Which has me thinking I'm reading it wrong or interpreting it wrong. Am I? Because if I'm not that guy needs a press handler stat, IMO.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2009-08-25 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I keep trying to think of a way to respond besides LOLNO but the whole quote is just so dumb, I can't even.

Is this guy an actor or a writer or what? In any case

ugh i just lost my comment. fu lj.

bill didn't rape her during that graveyard sex scene. she seemed to like it very much and her only complaint was that she didn't want to be bitten in the same place since that spot was sore or something.

stephen needs to stfu, though. like really.

[identity profile] stretch.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I've been known to use those exact words - it's not hard. And while this is beyond fucked up, is it strange that my first reaction was "he was raping Sookie in that scene?" I'm sorry I didn't recognize it...

[identity profile] saramiskismet.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently he wasn't. A rape was in the books, but not in the series yet.

[identity profile] sherrilina.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt the rape will ever make it into the series though, Ball sanctifies Bill too much, it wouldn't fit....just like Bill running off for vengence without checking to see if Sookie was okay after the bombing didn't fit, and just like I don't think they'll work in the part where Sookie asks Bill to be gentle during sex and he essentially says, "TOUGH SHIT I NEED TO SATISFY MY MANLY URGES!" *rolleyes*

Bill is such an asshole in the books, and it annoys me that he not only isn't in the show, but that the other two men are more so to help raise up Bill...

HAHAHAH SHE WOULD I MEAN WHAT?

parallels should be drawn between smeyer and stephen moyer. misogyny club.

I never get tired of this speech. *points to icon*

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it fabulous? It gets steady use, I must admit.

Yours makes me gleeful, too!

[identity profile] sherrilina.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Their names are practically the same!

[identity profile] woven.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
what the fuck. i don't..have ANY words for that. how ignorant.

[identity profile] yourgravity.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
wow. bad form, stephen moyer. bad form.

[identity profile] lostpoisoned.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
oh god, that's an idiot right there.

[identity profile] noblealice.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, he seems to mean the scene where he had to bury himself and he crawls out of the ground and has 'thank go I'm alive'-sex with Sookie. Interesting that he adds 'rapist' into his character motivations. Unless it's poor word choice. In which case it's.....REALLY poor word choice. Like, DUDE.

Anyways, this gets TWO EYEROLLS FROM ME, MISTER! (And one tsk, tsk head shake for bonus show shenanigans)

[identity profile] saramiskismet.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
PS: I can only imagine the wank this is causing in the True Blood fandom proper.

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
i don't know if it did? i think it was from an article for a bit back - jezebel just posted it today, though, so idk. i should check the true blood tag at ontd.

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
the article JUST went up at ONTD, actually, + scans, so i commented with the quote which you can't really read from the scans and we'll see if anyone responds with mutual outrage.

i just - don't even know.

[identity profile] saramiskismet.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Checking...

I can't find it. Link?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
DIE IN A FIRE, VAMPIRE BILL.

Oh, wait. We already tried that one. It didn't take.

I knew absolutely nothing about Stephen Moyer before, so I didn't know I needed to dislike him BUT NOW I TOTALLY DO.

I just...how am I supposed to respond to this? I know a lot of people think this way, and that's scary and disgusting enough, but to actually SAY IT? WHO DOES THAT?

So now in addition to ranting after every episode about how annoyingly chauvinist it is that BILL MUST PROTECT SOOKIE all the time, I now get to hate the actor, too? OH JOY.

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
YEP, CONGRATS, WELCOME TO MY FLIST. it's a feminist fiesta up in here. ironically, this icon is entitled "what if there are no damsels in distress?" appropriate icon title is appropriate?

i hate the bill and sookeh show - i just watch for everyone else. jessica is a fierce HBIC, oh yes.
Edited 2009-08-25 04:05 (UTC)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
it's a feminist fiesta up in here. I knew I was gonna like it here!

You are definitely winning my appropriate icon award this week.

Me, too. How is it possible that literally every single other character on the show is more interesting than those two?

YES, YES. I want a Jessica show. In which Jessica is fierce one minute and sweeter than cotton candy with Hoyt the next.

[identity profile] flowrs4ophelia.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I just...I...WUT.
