Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon

THE RULES ARE THUS:

1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.

2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.

3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.

4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.

5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.

6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.

7. Promote this if you please. You can use this code:

Yay! I've desperately wanted someone to answer this one . . .

Luna Lovegood's evidence of the impossibility of true love.
Age 14

1- I don't think he should be very tall. I'm not very tall, and I should think tall people are much more likely to knock their heads on things.

2- He should like music and dancing, as they go together very nicely. Father says a boy who doesn't dance is missing a part of his heart, which leads to poor circulation and, thus, freezing cold hands.

3- He should see Thestrals. Grief and beauty also go together. One without the other would make him terribly unbalanced.

4- His hair should be wild like a lion's. I much prefer Devil-may-care to perfectly-ordinary.

5- He must be kind. He must.

6- He should be a 'he.' I like girls' round bottoms, and Cho has particularly lovely breasts, but boys are... well, I've heard glowing things regarding cocks.

7- He will love to snog, and he will be very very good at it.

8- He won't be afraid of sex. Lots of people are terrified of sex and pretend that they're not by pretending to be obsessed with it. All that pretending gets too complicated to maintain, so I think it's much simpler to like sex openly.

9- He should be a little sad. A little melancholy is good for the complexion, and overly happy people tend to have frozen faces, which is alarming.

10- He should be suspicious of the Ministry, always. One must always know who to trust, and those with the drabbest robes and all the administrative power are certainly not it.

11- He should be unafraid to act decisively. I think a person's moral and political commitments are of the utmost importance. His compass will be unwavering and steadfast. He will be unfailingly good, even when the right course is unclear.

12- He will love his friends very much and sacrifice himself for them when he must. He'll let others make sacrifices for him, even though he'll hate it.

13- He should have a sense of humor that slips by others, unnoticed.

14- He'll believe me when I say things.

15- He will be the bravest person I know. I think it's important to admire the boy I love. He'll be heroic and noble without meaning to be. Those who intend to be heroic and noble are actually neither.

16- He'll be rubbish at riddles and crosswords. He'll be so bad at them that he'll laugh.

17- He'll be a fantastic cook. I haven't the foggiest idea how to cook. Neither does Dad, and Mum didn't, either. He'll make omelettes and pies, and he'll let me help him when he experiments with French pastry.

18- He can teach me how to curse properly.

19- He should be curious about things, want to know things, just because knowing is exciting. I don't mean that he should always have his nose in a book, only that he should see the world as containing all the most exciting possibilities imaginable. And he should be able to appreciate them. With me, hopefully.

20- Number 5 is worth repeating. He'll be kind, even if those around him are not.

21- He'll be something that can't actually exist: a boy filled with joyhopelosslonelinesslovesorrowfearbraverybeautyuglinessloveloveloveloveloveandlove

Luna shrank the parchment and put her quill into the knot of hair at the nape of her neck. Then she picked up her Quibbler and waited for the coach to begin its journey from Hogsmeade Station to Hogwarts. She was starting her fourth year this term. Hopefully she'd have classes with Ginny again.

At the sound of someone exclaiming at the sight of something fantastic, she glanced down to see a boy (rather short, hair like a lion's) staring at the Thestrals as though he were seeing a Crumple-horned Snorkack.

Loved it! I love her little list, as well as her first impression of Harry. This is the best: 18- He can teach me how to curse properly.

Oh Luna . . .

Thanks; it was such a great prompt! Where did it come from? A song or movie quote?
From: [identity profile] renimar.livejournal.com
It's an Alanis Morissette song, "21 Things I Want In a Lover (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdvCdH325MA)".

this is totally and completely adorable, and i love how even though she hadn't even met Harry yet, she had listed almost all of his qualities.

Hm, haha, that may be because Harry is perfect for her! Or, at least, she might think him so.

Thank you! She is such a sweetheart, isn't she. I had really hoped she and Harry could at least have a little romance. Alas.

this list....just fantabulous. and how she sees him at the end...perfect ending, it works so so so well. Luna, Luna, Luna...

Thank you! I find it quite possible that she'd love Harry for all these qualities. Question is, how to get Harry past the, 'you're not like other girls, and I like that' part of the story.
From: [identity profile] renimar.livejournal.com
Very nice. :) Getting inside Luna's head is not something I've seen done well with any frequency, but I think the Luna we see here is quite in character.

A well-written H/L ship piece is like one of Luna's Snorkack's: rarely seen, and treasured when spotted. I think I've found one here.

Wow, thank you so much! I agree that Harry/Luna is a rarely-done-well ship; I think because Luna falls so easily into caricature and Harry just does his Harry-herp-derp thing around her. Next task: how to get Harry to fall for Luna!

this is so in-character and so wonderful, like i read a piece from 4th year luna's little journal. i love it.
