Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon

THE RULES ARE THUS:

1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.

2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.

3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.

4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.

5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.

6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.

7. Promote this if you please. You can use this code:

harry/ron/hermione,

We got nowhere to go and no home that’s left
The water is rising on a river turning red
It all might be OK or we might be dead
If everything we’ve got is slipping away
I meant what I said when I said until my dying day
I’m holding on to you, holding on to me

Harry/Ron/Hermione -- Gravity

It's after the war.

When people ask him, he tells them he’s fine. Isn’t that what you were supposed to say? Nobody wants to hear tirades of depression.

He’s not depressed. They’ve just won a war and changed the world and made a difference.

He’s just lost.

-

Hermione is the first one to realise what he really means when he says it.

“I’m fine. I just didn’t expect to be here tonight.”

She takes a moment to figure it out. Ron replies with a dazed “Huh?” and then goes back to discussing the Chudley Cannons with his alter ego.

When she finally has it figured out, she throws herself into Harry’s arms, whispers a devastated “Oh Harry” and presses her body against him with all her might. She’s not going to let go of him for a while.

-

Ron doesn’t take the news of Harry’s break-up with Ginny well. He’s hell-bent on avenging his sister, even if she was the one to break up with Harry.

It’s no one’s fault but the war’s.

Ginny understands, says that this isn’t meant to be, agrees that they’re still friends, beams when Harry agrees. They’re both children of a fucked up generation and Harry was too much in love with the idea of having a family of his own and Ginny was too much in love with the Boy Who Lived, but not with Harry.

They were teenagers when they had built up this fantasy and now they’re not. They agree that they’re both mature enough to make this decision.

They still love each other. Just not like that.

-

Harry leaves when Ron doesn’t look like he’ll come around anytime soon. He tells Ginny where he’s going – away, away from here, away from the memories, away from the war, because it’s still waging in his mind, it’ll never stop, he’ll never get rid of the war inside his bones – and that’s that.

She promises not to tell anyone if he keeps in contact with her. He promises not to do anything stupid.

-

Ron does eventually come around. Hermione has to spell it out for him, once he’s speaking to her again and not putting on his child face and sticking his fingers into his eyes and singing “I can’t hear you” every time she mentions Harry’s name.

She doesn’t rebuke him for it when he does that. They’ve all grown up too quickly and maybe it’s what Ron needs. They all have their baggage to carry and it could be worse. Craving a piece of the innocence you lost a bit too early is perhaps the best thing that could happen.

Hermione herself isn’t quite right in the head, as they might say. She cannot help it, ever since Malfoy Manor she’s jumpy and it hasn’t been nearly long enough to forget. In her bones she can still feel the things that Bellatrix did to her. She doubts it’ll ever go away. Her parents are back to normal, they’re setting up a new dentistry and she hides from them because they’ll notice that she’s grown paranoid and she doesn’t want to explain more than she already had.

Harry/Ron/Hermione -- Gravity [cont]

It’s been two months since Harry left – and Merlin, she is glad that Ginny made him promise to stay in contact because she’s worrying herself silly – and Ron finally comes around. He does so on his own terms, he’s talked to Ginny and she told him to get his head out of his arse and he listens and then he cannot stop his tongue from betraying his stubborn heart and he asks Hermione about what it is that she wants to tell him about Harry.

-

They Apparate to the end of the world – a lonely house in the middle of rural Russia – and when they barge inside they find Harry sitting there, reading a letter from Ginny.

“I didn’t expect to live,” he says, not looking up.

Hermione nods and Ron feels awful because he should’ve realised this, should’ve listened to Hermione earlier, should’ve done something to make it all better.

“We know, mate,” he replies. “We know.”

It’s one of the few truths that they have been telling the world lately. The war was too much, too long, too painful, too much their business to feel fine. They lie to the world, they don’t mention the memories and how messed up they are inside, because no one except them will ever know what it is like to feel like Harry Potter or Ron Weasley or Hermione Granger because no one but them can.

“We know,” Hermione whispers, because saying it once, saying it twice isn’t enough. They know because that’s exactly how they feel themselves and there’s never enough beauty, enough magic, enough brilliance in the world to make it go away.

-

Harry can’t tell how often Hermione or Ron have hugged him, touched him, loved him these past days, how often they’ve told him that they’re in this together. Forever. It’ll always be the three of them, in every situation.

They’re not quite lovers, not quite friends, but they’re something. Ron can’t put his finger on it, but he knows that something has changed between them. It’s for the better, he thinks. His heart thinks. It’s for the best, Hermione says. Harry nods and smiles.

It’s never enough, they’ll never be able to run and hide from the war, but it’s something and they won’t let go of it.

This is lovely and utterly heartbreaking.

Hermione is the first one to realise what he really means when he says it.

“I’m fine. I just didn’t expect to be here tonight.”

Gorgeous.

this is so incredibly beautiful. I've always felt they would have suffered some sort of complex or another and you explored it with amazingness.

Oh thank you!

In my opinion, nobody can come out of such a distressing war without issues. I understand that it's hard to explore that in what is basically the last one in a series of children's books, but it was a war they were fighting and they were on the run and under so much psychological stress, it's beyond me how they could possibly be as fit as a fiddle afterwards.
Just think about the war veterans we have in the real world, the war they fought will always be a part of them.

LOL, sorry, I rambled. Thank you for your kind comment, it means the world to me.

oh my gosh you literally took the words right out of my mouth.
Even someone who only fought for a few minutes in the final battle would have psychological damage. It's my main reason i can't really enjoy harry ang ginny together, actually. They were together in wartime but everything changes in times of peace, so how can they know they were really meant to be? But I digress. Basically, I agreed with you haha.

You are so welcome!
