Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon
THE RULES ARE THUS:
1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.
2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.
3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.
4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.
5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.
6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.
7. Promote this if you please. You can use this code:

There are these histories that hang over the both of them.
Hers are a little bit more well-known than his, but all a professor needs to see is either of their last names and they’re off.
“Your father was quite the troublemaker.”
“Your mother is the most brilliant witch I’ve ever met.”
“Your grandfather made life hard at times.”
“It’s such a shame that your aunt retired from the Harpies as early as she did.”
(It is not hard to assign which comment goes to which person)
And it’s such a shock that the two of them are friends. Madame Pince gives her the strangest look whenever she sees them studying together in the library (which is a lot, since Scorpius is in a different house and the library is the most neutral place they can meet.)
Rose isn’t all that surprised by the strange looks they get, because she knows what they’re all thinking. She probably would have avoided him like a good little Weasley if it hadn’t been for the odd-numbers in the Slytherin-Ravenclaw Charms class in her second year.
(Even at eleven Rose knew her mother’s handwriting well, knew it well enough to see how very practiced the hand was in the letter she received after she told them that she was sorted into Ravenclaw—there were many, many drafts of that letter before she sent it.)
She and Scorpius were partnered up and she found that despite her father’s warning to watch out for him, he was very quiet and nice and extremely intelligent. And good-looking. She would be an idiot if she didn’t notice that.
They worked well together, so they partnered up whenever needed in class. Charms partners turned into study partners which turned into…something, she’s not sure what, but it involves a first kiss in the library when everyone else was out watching the Quidditch match.
They’re both sixth years when it happens. She has a History of Magic essay to write (taught by a new professor—Binns haunts in a strictly advisory position now) and she’s looking for Westphalia in the general encyclopedia’s index when her finger stops on Weasley.
“I hate,” she whispers, “finding my name in history books.”
“Not as much as I do,” Scorpius responds.
It is the first time they’ve ever really discussed it. They’d always avoided the subject before when it threatened to come up and their parents are never mentioned. Trying to keep her voice even, she says “He can’t be all that bad.”
Scorpius looks up from his Transfiguration notes and meets her eyes before saying quietly “Everyone expects me to be horrible. And not even because of what he and Grandfather did. Just because of how he acted when was here.” He takes a deep breath and says “I hoped so much that I wouldn’t get Slytherin. I wanted a chance to be someone else.”
She knows that she is supposed to say that he is only a Slytherin because he’s so clever and not everyone in the house can be evil because that’s just not rational.
But she doesn’t, because she’s angry. Angry at all the stupid history that makes him miserable and makes her feel like some sort of failure. So instead of being a good friend and reassuring him, she leans across the table and kisses him.
When she pulls away, she takes in his expression and shrugs (but smiles, and he starts to smile back through the shock.)
“I think it’s easier for us to make our own expectations.”
Re: This is why events unnerve me, they find it all, a different story,
Date: 2010-12-01 11:33 am (UTC)I loved all the inserts in brackets, which can be overdone but you used it really tasetefully and it just added extra feel to it, which was great.
Rose being sorted into Ravenclaw is my personal headcanon. I think that Hermione had just as much chance to be sorted there as into Gryffindor, and I hope that she'd be very proud of her daughter, regardless of what Ron might think about not being a Gryffindor. And unfortunately for Scorpius, he would never really be in anything but Slytherin, I think.
It was great all over and my general reaction was a huge grin and an audible, "aaaw". Even though it's not fluff. Whatever.
Thankyou for filling this! <3
