Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon
THE RULES ARE THUS:
1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.
2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.
3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.
4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.
5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.
6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.
7. Promote this if you please. You can use this code:

Easier Than Crying
But she's different. She's Loony Lovegood-a thin collection of skin and bones (and scraggly hair and bug-eyes) that has been the laughingstock of the school since she first arrived. Loony Lovegood is not the first name suggested for a perilous mission to save the Wizarding World from You-Know-Who; he doubts she's even the last (why would her name be brought up in the first place?). She's a Ravenclaw, the strangest Ravenclaw ever, and looks frail enough to snap completely in between two moderately strong hands.
But she shows up, calm and in good spirits, when they give out the call. She handles herself with grace while riding on top of those . . . things. She's serene while in the Department of Mysteries, firing off hexes and dodging falling objects. She's practically non-reactive when being held hostage, a Dark Wizard aiming his wand at her throat. And when the cavalry arrives, when they're under fire like never before, she holds her wand, blood dripping from a cut on her lip, smiles dreamily and Stupifies Death Eater after Death Eater.
At the end of it, he's shakily getting to his feet and she's practically skipping over to check on her schoolmates. He shakes his head at her composure, unable to rectify this image with his conception of Loony Lovegood. "Weren't you afraid?" he asks, in a tone far more accusatory than intentioned.
She blinks those bug-eyes at him, the red trail of blood on her face a sharp contrast to the paleness of her skin. "I was terrified," she returns in that same airy sort of voice she always uses. She blinks a few more times and then smiles softly and makes to move away.
"Are you making fun of me?" he has to ask, not sure what to make of a girl who can skip and hum like a child when they've been through Hell, when someone has died right in front of them. He can still hear Harry screaming for Sirius, the sounds echo in his ears and batter against his brain. He wants to cry, just thinking of it, but can't because this silly girl with her stupid eyes and inappropriate smile.
When she turns back around, she's wearing the closest thing he's ever seen to a frown on her face. "Why would I be making fun of you?"
He shakes his head, anger ready to pour of his mouth in a steady stream. But he checks himself at the last second, already sees Ginny and Hermione giving him strange looks. "You're smiling, like this was fun."
Re: Easier Than Crying Part 2
"Oh," she steps back towards him, a trembling around her lips as she tries to keep her face neutral, for him he supposes. "I'm sorry if that offended you. I just find it's easier to smile than to cry. You can stop smiling a lot quicker than you can stop crying."
He has no words to say, can't think of a single retort for such an innocently stated opinion. She looks at him unblinkingly, standing disconcertingly close to him. He can only shake his head, rub at his tired eyes, and give up because encounters with Luna Lovegood are sometimes too complicated for him to follow. "Never mind, I-never mind."
He turns away, blinking back tears that she's strong enough to keep at bay. She puts her hand on his shoulder, a light touch from a tiny little thing, and moves so she's standing in front of him again. "But crying is okay too," she tells him. "Neither way is wrong-it's just what you feel, Ronald."
She drops her hand and moves away, taking care not to skip. He feels bad as he watches her go, sees herself holding back for his sake and the sake of others. He'll never truly understand that girl, but there are times when she makes so much sense it's like it's everyone else who's off their nutter and she's the only sane one left.
He's still not sure what she's doing here, but for the first time, he's glad she came.

This line—it just kills me. This entire thing is just—it's perfect. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Also: I love this so very much! It's been far too long since I've read Ron/Luna in general, and even longer since I read something capturing them and the pairing so well. This fic highlights what about them makes them so OTP for me. Just everything! I got a bit misty-eyed even!
