2/2 There's Something In The Water Sirius/Petunia (pg)

The man who answers the door isn't James, but she starts at first, confused, before realised he must be a friend, on of them.

"You are...?" He's hanging on the door frame, holding a beer in one hand.

"Petunia Evans - Lily's sister." He must know who she is, and, there - she isn't totally forgotten then.

"Ah. The blushing bride's upstairs, go on."

---

The man who could be James has not mentioned that Lily is trying on her wedding dress and Petunia catches only a glimpse of the flowing white before she feels the ground fall away beneath her.

---

She wakes up in the hall where she fell with Lily, James and the other man crowded around her.

"Tuneywhathappenedareyouokaydidyouhityourheadohmygodyou'rebleedingquickSiriusgethersomechocolateohshitIneedtogetoutofthisbloodydressJamesputheronthecouchNOW"

"Sweet Merlin, Evans, do you always talk so fast?" Sirius is halfway down the stairs when,

"Only when she's upset" Petunia is able to mumble.

---

An hour later she has explained to Lily, James has actually spoken to her and Sirius is showing her some charms while she drinks the Butterbeer that has been foisted upon her.

She touches his wrist at one point and he smiles, leans in and brushes hair away from her face.

She imagines what it would be like to let go - just once. She imagines her fingers running through his hair, the feel of his hands on her hips. She sits with her hand palm side up and he traces patterns on it as they talk about nothing - the stores in Diagon Alley, the hills of Scotland, what her school was like.

At one point she starts and wonders what she is doing. She is holding hands and fascinating about another man. And not just any man - the best friend of her brother in law. A wizard. Vernon's voice floats into her head: "They are freaks. Nothing more. We are good, normal people and you shouldn't be consorting with them anymore than need be."

---

The fantasies become reality for 5 minutes in the laundry room of Lily's house while she scolds James for breaking another plate.

---

She goes home, eventually. After a kiss on the cheek from Lily (and and imagined one from Sirius)

She walks in long after dark. Vernon is - for once - near tears. He thinks he's lost her. She reassures him - places his hands on her stomach and tells him the good news.

---

She doesn't see Lily again. Or James.

Sirius however, shows up on her TV screen one day and she almost faints. The man who gave her the courage to return to the life she earned. That man who gave her nephew some of the spirit his mother had. She mourns him once, just once, mourns him for the man he once was.

(ugh, not a fan of the end & woah that got away from me - but it was fun writing Petunia)
