Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon

THE RULES ARE THUS:

1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.

2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.

3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.

4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.

5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.

6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.

I did like this: Ginny always looks at him with such clear eyes. It's like a window so clean you don't realize until too late that it's closed. Soooo true. *sigh*

She is part of a different lifetime, of a different photo album. The types of photo albums you don’t bring out to show your guests. She is interwoven in between threads of blood and silver stags. She is pressed in-between words of a story that was never told. She is trapped in a lifetime that is not his anymore. She is sowed in a quilt of time that no longer exists in his eyes. Their red and gold thread is not acceptable for display. They cannot show the curses and the dripping blood and the salty tears and the lipsagainstskin and flesh against flesh to the world. She is kept in a photo album in a dusty old box in the attic.

The first time only happens because she had a fight with Harry.

Neville's lips are rougher than she remembers, more desperate, more insistent. She balls her fingers into fists so tight that she can feel her nails digging into her palms and lets her mouth open under his.

She goes to him the second time just to tell him off.

Who the hell is he to tell her what she wants, what she doesn't want? Who is he to send her home to her husband? Who is he to say that she's only doing this because she's miserable? Oh, he'll shag her, but then he wants to tell her that she shouldn't worry, that things will get better. She didn't come to him for fucking advice.

She was going to tell him off, but she just ends up crying into his chest, feeling his arms wrap around her and his fingers stroke her hair. She cries until she can't breathe, holds onto him as if he can keep her steady. She cries because she's thinking of the war, can't help but think about it when she's with him, and somehow, beyond comprehension, remembers it as the last time when things were right. She cries because she married Harry and that was supposed to make the nightmares go away, but her head is still full blood and death and Tom. She cries because she used to be brave and loud and dangerously reckless. She used to be a lot of things and now she's just someone's wife.

The third time is just because she's miserable.

The fourth time is because Harry won't fight and she's tired of the silence.

She wants to hate him, but she can't because he's Harry Potter and he saved the world and he's going to save her too. She wants to scream at him, to throw things, to slap him across the face. She wants him to be angry because she's so furious with him and her family and the whole damn world and she needs him. Needs him to fight back, needs him to scream, needs him to care. She needs so much from Harry and he can give so little, has already given most of himself away and needs the rest for himself.

Neville's about to tell her to leave again, but she speaks first. She tells him she loves Harry, that she'll always love Harry, that she's happy, that she's never coming back here because she doesn't want anything else from him. She knows him too well, know just which buttons to push to make him snap. He shoves her back against the wall, pushes his leg between hers, kisses her mouth, her cheek, her neck. "You want this," he whispers harshly and it's not a question, but she moans in response anyway.

The fifth time, Neville asks if she's going to tell Harry.

She shakes her head immediately, unable to stand the fact that even this betrayal wouldn't make Harry angry with her.

Neville nods and looks back up at the ceiling. She watches him for a moment, trying to tell what he's thinking, before she remembers that she never was very good at that with him.

The sixth time, she realizes that he's never going to send her away.

There's a kind of dizzying power that comes with that knowledge.

The seventh time, he asks her if she remembers their last DA meeting together, right before she went home for the Easter holiday and never came back.

Ginny thinks about his hand on her arm holding her back as the other DA members headed off to bed. She remembers his stare because he had a way of looking at her so intensely that she felt both more relaxed and more on edge. They both knew she wasn't going to come back after the holiday, that he'd have to keep going on his own. She remembers taking both his hands in hers and promising, beyond reason and hope, promising to come back.

He's still watching her, waiting for her answer. He wants her to remember so that they can be those people again. He wants this to be the grand romantic tale of love in the midst of war instead of what it is -- a sad story of infidelity in the midst of nothing.

There was a time when she would have given him that comfort, that peace of mind. There was a time when she would have given him anything. She opens her mouth to answer, but the words get stuck in her throat. Instead, she silently starts picking her clothes up off the floor and ignores his questioning stare.

She can't pretend for him, not when all of her energy is trying to pretend for Harry.

She walks out of his bedroom and knows that she can't ever go back.

But, of course, there is an eighth time.

Oh, I adored this. I love that you stress that their relationship isn't simply easy. They don't always get along and aren't permanently in sync. Ginny angry and frustrated and Neville says the wrong thing some of the time, but they still sit and hold hands and are there for each other. And the way they both feel reserved and guilty about all of it.

He almost misses classes and torture and in his dreams he can hear cruciocruciocrucio and echoing screams that he's sure aren't is.

We're stuck here in this tent, wandering aimlessly—the two of us alone. And I wonder from where you draw your faith in me. You believe in this crazy trip to find Horcruxes, your faith never wavering, and I don't know why. I'm the one chosen for this task, and even I doubt that it makes sense when the hours flow on interminably without even a hint of a lead on where we should go next. But these hours alone, depending only upon one another because we have no choice, has made me look at you in a different way than I ever have. I know I shouldn't.
