Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon

THE RULES ARE THUS:

1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.

2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.

3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.

4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.

5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.

6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.

The Weasleys have outdone themselves, Harry thinks as he stands at the entrance of the giant tent. Inside, Bill and Fleur’s reception is in full blast. Family and friends in their finest dress and finest spirits: a joyous interlude before the inevitable crashing down of the curtain, a TV break before the return of exhausting reality. The just-married couple waltz merrily while a crowd claps in time to the beat. One two three, one two three, and the show carries on.

A voice somewhere in Harry’s head reminds him that this is real. This is as much real as lightning-bolt scars and broken limbs, and more real in fact than the regularly scheduled nightmares that play in his private theatre of consciousness.

Harry knows this, knows that occasions like these are the things “worth fighting for”. Happiness, connection, love, these are what’s real.

He’s just finding them difficult to hold on to.

He observes Ron and Hermione lingering by the confectionery, sparring merrily about something or other. Harry finds it difficult to keep up these days. How do they have boundless energy, while he feels tired to the bone? Aren’t they all in this together?

Harry knows he’s being unfair. He was going to leave them behind, after all. He was going to leave them behind -- yet he feels as though they’re dancing to a beat he can’t follow.

Go in, a voice in his head urges. What are you waiting for? Join them.

But he pauses.

For a long moment, he pauses at the threshold.

Before him is life: the people worth fighting for, bathed in light, warmth, laughter. He just has to take those few steps – and then he’ll be with them. Everything will fall into place.

But he doesn’t move from the spot.

He wonders briefly if this is what his life amounts to: wavering on the edge of wanting to live it, and not knowing how.

Without turning his head, he becomes aware of Luna Lovegood joining his side.

That she’s the only other one not already inside doesn’t surprise Harry at all.

They don’t speak right away, instead both simply staring at the celebration going on in front of them. One two three, one two three, the clapping of hands and stomping of feet.

“It’s quite a complicated matter, dancing,” Luna says after a moment, in that bizarrely cheerful yet matter-of-fact voice. “Requires a perfect sense of rhythm.”

Harry knows it’s not really true for the waltz – the music is fast, yes, but the beat is simple enough to follow. Still, he finds himself agreeing,

“Yeah, it’s… difficult.”

He turns to looks at her, at the same moment she turns to look at him.

Noticing this correctness of timing, Luna’s face breaks into a smile, perfectly unassuming, containing not a hint of expectation.

And Harry smiles back.

Luna gently takes his hand in hers. At this simple act -- human contact, not as simple as it looks -- a wave of peace washes over Harry.

“Come on, “ she says simply. “They’re waiting.”

Harry nods, knowing he need not explain his prior reluctance. Luna’s not expecting it from him.

Still holding her hand, Harry moves forward. One step, two steps, three.

The rest is easy after that.

They call her plain, ordinary, average. Maybe she is. I’ve been surrounded by beauty my whole life. I love each thread of silk, couldn’t be without my trinkets or toys, but… she is almost out of reach. Not quite, but nearly.

Another thrill is that she wants this just as much as I do. This affair is doomed, we knew it from the first, furious, kiss. We don’t wish to divert from our ultimate paths, but for a while… we rebel. We test, taste, play. Fight.

Fuck.

I take her every way I know, and she teaches me in turn.

Tom is a resilient boy. He’s endured far worse than the painfully sincere scrawls of pubescent Ginny Weasley -- a girl who truly knows nothing of true pain, or of the truths of the universe (there is no good, no evil, only power and how much).

But all in good time – Tom is a great teacher.

And Ginny’s an eager pupil. Ready, willing, perfectly malleable, she bends to his will like a flower to a gale of wind, every which way, until she starts to lose track of which way is up and which way’s down, which way’s right and which way’s wrong. (Tom doesn’t care.) She gives herself up, gives herself away, every unblemished inch, into his hungry incorporeal hands. She teases him.

He carves his name into her skin. She traces it with a fingertip, and with the barest tip of her tongue.

Oh, Tom, you’re the only one, the only one who cares how I hurt!

He’s not. He’s merely the only one who has a vested interest in just how much.

And her thick tears drip, seep into the pages. He drinks them in, laps her up, tastes her heat, the low boil of her anger and despair.

A taste isn’t enough.

He’ll slide in, under her skin, overwhelm her senses, fill her to the hilt -- until two become one.

Oh, but Tom, surely you can’t always care so much about my troubles.

But I very much do, Ginevra. Your pain is my own. It cuts right into my soul.

The broken shard of his soul, yes, trapped for so long, with barely a spark of human connection. But he’ll be alone no more – he’ll share it with her, imbue her with his essence.

Two lonely souls, colliding -- or rather, one lonely soul, and a rotting piece of another.

But what a pure soul hers is. Perfectly whole, perfectly untouched. Everything he is not.

How could he resist?

This can’t go on, Tom. You make me… You do things to me. Things I don’t understand. Things that make me feel… ashamed.

Tom doesn’t worry. He’s in every part of her – to erase his words would be to erase herself.

He reaches through the opening, past the pages, caresses and coaxes until she’s half mad with it. She flows into him. He takes the wheel.

He takes her, time and again. Finally she lays spent, barely moving, on the cold wetness of the Chamber.

And he emerges from her depths, frees himself of the receptacle he no longer needs. He stands over her and she watches him, eyes bloodshot, skin paper-thin. There’s a little fear in her gaze, a little awe, a little helpless longing.

Her eyes close.

He crouches over her, leans in, touches her at last. Slides his long fingers over the curve of her neck, the softness of her lips. Moves his hand lower, over her heart, feels its weak beating, the slowing pulse.

He keeps his hand over her heart. He keeps it there, until it stops.
