Harry Potter Non-Canon Ships Comment Ficathon
THE RULES ARE THUS:
1. WHAT MAKES A NON-CANON SHIP? Anything that is not at least one-sided in the books. This means that Snape/Lily is canon, even if she may (or may not) have ever reciprocated. Bellatrix/Voldemort is canon. Lavendar/Ron is canon. Obviously everyone who's married and/or dates is canon. OBHWF is canon, Harry/Cho is canon. Ships that are not stated as fact in the books are not canon. That means UC ships are good, slash is good, femslash is good. For our purposes, we are not counting JKR's interviews as canon. That means that if you wanted to prompt, say, who knows, Hannah/Neville, you could, because it's not in the text itself.
2. You leave a comment with a pairing and a prompt. You respond to prompts that you like. Your prompt must pertain to a non-canon ship. You may specify a character within that ship if you want the fic written from that characters perspective. You may also specify a timeline if you'd like, or if you want it to take place in the movie!verse.
3. When writing fic, put in your title SHIP - TITLE OF FIC (rating optional). This will help us archive if we later archive things. I don't have time to archive anything right now, but if someone wants to volunteer, we can make that happen.
4. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Comments are the lifeblood of the internet.
5. NO WANK. I'll delete your ass. And we're dealing with ships and I am deletion happy, so watch yourself.
6. There will be spoilers for the movie all over this post, I am sure. You have been warned.
7. Promote this if you please. You can use this code:
For text link:
In the image code box, you can use any of the banners below or the lead banner at the top of the post.
They're all uploaded to tinypic, so you can just copy/paste the source code:

Re: harry/hermione - when i run, when i run like a bandit (2/2)
Date: 2010-12-08 08:32 am (UTC)"I'm just getting tired of people walking away," she whispers, and Harry feels sliced apart. Me too, Harry, me too.
Re: I once was blind, but now I see (Harry/Hermione)
Date: 2010-12-08 08:40 am (UTC)It SHOULD have been. I just... it makes me angry that they chose the "just once" to choose Ron over Harry as their lifetime partners. It's not a just once decision; it's forever. And you're not really choosing him when you're still in love with Harry.
Re: harry/hermione -- could you leave me with a scar? (3/3)
Date: 2010-12-08 08:47 am (UTC)(it feels, for a moment, as if you’ve used a time-turner to go back and right all of your life’s wrongs)
Don't you wish you could?
“We could have been extraordinary,” he says, pressing one last kiss against your lips.
They would have been.
Re: harry/hermione - a regret, you might say
Date: 2010-12-08 08:53 am (UTC)Re: Harry/Hermione, between two lungs it was released
Date: 2010-12-08 08:57 am (UTC)it’s a promise he wants to keep but a promise she won’t let him.
She should.
Re: harry/hermione - my heart is holding onto you
Date: 2010-12-08 09:03 am (UTC)I want to believe you, Hermione, luv. But I don't. If you let him marry Ginny and you marry Ron, you'll regret it. You'll become people who don't even talk to each other when you send your ridiculously named children off to Hogwarts. Trust me, you don't want that.
Re: harry/hermione - the thing to do (2/2)
Date: 2010-12-08 09:09 am (UTC)Then why the bloody hell are you marrying Ron the idiot, Hermione, Darling?
Seriously, she should know better.
Re: "Five Aces"
Date: 2010-12-08 09:10 am (UTC)Re: keep it a secret as long as you can; Harry/Hermione
Date: 2010-12-08 09:14 am (UTC)(no one would ever have said out loud, but the bet had been on five years or less).
This? So true. No way Ron and Hermione last 19 effing years together. Not in their personalities.
Re: harry/hermione -- tell you that the metaphor is better than yours (pg)
Date: 2010-12-08 09:19 am (UTC)Almost was.
I'm amused that Rita still gets them, almost better than they get themselves, or at least that they'll admit to.
Re: harry/hermione; your love will be safe with me
Date: 2010-12-08 09:22 am (UTC)Beautiful.
(One minor thing - Cho wasn't an exchange student. Her parents might have been Chinese immigrants and she was certainly of that decent, but she was a normal Hogwarts student.)
Re: harry/hermione; he knocked on my door and entered the room, pg-13
Date: 2010-12-08 09:28 am (UTC)Re: "Five Aces"
Date: 2010-12-08 09:47 am (UTC)Re: harry/hermione -- this is my winter song to you (cont.)
Date: 2010-12-08 10:01 am (UTC)Harry/Ron, the one who makes it possible
Date: 2010-12-08 11:12 am (UTC)He’ll go on to be the first of his kind, the only – one in a million, unparalleled, the boy who won -- just like he started.
He’ll be the first first-year to be a Seeker; first Gryffindor to speak Parseltongue; first underage wizard to win the Tournament; first to destroy a Horcrux; first to rid the world of the evil that would seek to rule it. His life will be composed of countless firsts that lesser people will fail to accomplish.
But it’s sitting on the Hogwarts Express that day -- the first day, the first adventure, the first of many – that the most important first is made.
The awkward boy with the flaming hair and the cheerful grin disguising the glumness beneath -- the one the rest of the world deems unexceptional: he walks in to Harry’s carriage, asks for a place to sit, no one else will have him, you understand. (Harry understands.)
And that’s when life starts.
---
Harry will go on to love many things: the train rides to Hogwarts; pumpkin pasties, chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans; his wand; Quidditch matches; his Nimbus 2000 soon to be followed by Firebolt; lazy evenings in the Gryffindor Common Room; Christmas holidays at the Weasleys’.
He’ll go on to love many people: Hermione Granger; Albus Dumbledore; the image of his cold, dead parents; Remus Lupin; Sirius Black; Dobby the house-elf; Ginny Weasley; his future children.
But Ron is the first: the one who proves that it’s possible, even after a childhood without. Ron breaks the ice; breaks the dam. It comes pouring out.
Harry didn’t think he had it -- so much -- in him.
People will come and go. Ron will always be the first.
---
It’s because Harry knows so little about love, that he never anticipates Ron finally growing weary of being the best friend to a boy who could apparently choose any other.
Harry never asked for the life he leads; never asked for his fame; never asked for the scar on his forehead; never asked for his name to be spat out from the Goblet of Fire.
These things aren’t up to him; he doesn’t get a choice.
There are few choices Harry does have. He wishes he could make Ron see: that for every one, he chooses him.
---
It’s because Harry is slowly starting to learn about love, that it’s not unexpected when Ron walks away again, three years later, his own love turned to hate by the rotted soul they have no choice but to carry.
It occurs to him that Ron should have walked away long before now. It was Ron’s love that kept them together; his own was never enough.
But now Ron’s ruined it; ruined him for all else. Ron leaves, and he takes his love with him.
And Harry’s right back where he started.
---
But then the impossible happens.
Ron comes back.
He comes back, breaks the ice, pulls Harry out of the sea of nothingness freezing him to the core; gives him oxygen after (what seems like) a lifetime without. He saves him.
Once; first; every time.
---
And when the last battle’s over, and they stand victorious (if no longer quite whole), amidst the remains, Ron turns to him and says, voice full of wonder,
“We made it.”
Harry stares back at his oldest friend, and he’s at an utter loss as to how to begin.
Finally he chokes out a reply, far too inadequate to encompass the swelling inside his chest.
“I couldn’t have done it without you.”
He means every word. He does.

Date: 2010-12-08 11:31 am (UTC)Second: oh god, I love this. It's everything that I wanted and more. Your style is gorgeous, simple yet effective. You've given Ron's return a beautiful poignancy, and I love it all so much. Thanks ♥

Date: 2010-12-08 03:07 pm (UTC)I've always thought Rose's name was a bit of an homage to Lily, with the flower names. (It's been a secret thing people point to to suggest Rose is actually Harry's daughter...)
